Award Categories and Criteria

Awards

These Awards may be bestowed on suitably meritorious nominees each year.

The Mary Kitson Award recognises an individual or organisation who has made an extraordinary contribution to the advancement of women in law.

The Justice Award recognises a legal practitioner or organisation who has made an outstanding contribution to improving fair and equal access to justice in South Australia.

The Emerging Lawyer of the Year Award  recognises an emerging lawyer who has contributed to the profession or the community in an outstanding or impactful way (formerly known as the Young Lawyer of the Year Award).

The Pro-Bono Award recognises a lawyer or organisation that has contributed to the profession or the community on or for a good benefit.

The Regional Practitioner of the Year Award recognises an admitted legal practitioner who has demonstrated excellence in their field of practice or made exceptional contributions to the profession or their local community.

The Bulletin Awards recognise outstanding contributions to the Law Society's flagship publication, The Bulletin. The two Awards are Article of the Year and Special Interest Article of the Year and are determined by the Members of the Law Society's Bulletin Committee. The Award is presented at the Legal Profession Gala Dinner.

In addition to the Award Criteria, the following Awards have award specific eligibility.

  • Nominees for the Justice Award other than organisations are required to be admitted legal practitioners to be eligible for this Award.
  • Nominees for the Emerging Lawyer Award must be an admitted legal practitioner under 35 years of age, or who have been admitted to practice for a period of five or less years.
  • Nominees for the Regional Practitioner of the Year Award must be an admitted legal practitioner, practising in regional South Australia.

President's Medal

The President's Medal recognises an individual, group or organisation who has made an exceptional contribution to the work of the President or the Law Society during the President's term. This award is determined by the President and is presented at the end of their term.
