Biennial renewal of membership of Special Interest and Select Committees is now underway. Expressions of Interest for membership of Committees starting from 1 January 2025 are now being accepted. If you are a member of the Law Society and would like to apply to join a committee, please complete the online EOI form.
As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance support for committee members, the Society recently reviewed its committee structures and processes. A key element of this review was the feedback from our late 2023 survey of committee members.
What are Select Committees?
Select Committees will be issue-based and convened only as needed, either at the request of the Society or the Chair. They will focus on specific areas of law or emerging topics that do not require regular meetings. Select Committees will commence 1 January 2025, at which time all committee member appointments will be renewed. To discover which Committees are Select, please click here.
What are Special Interest Committees?
Special Interest Committees meet regularly (e.g. monthly or bi-monthly) and maintain a consistent program of work related to their specific area of law or practice. These committees are essential to the ongoing policy, advocacy and education initiatives of the Law Society. The regularity and ongoing nature of their work necessitates frequent meetings and a dedicated approach to managing their workload.
Members of Special Interest Committees are expected to commit to regular participation and ongoing involvement in the committee’s activities throughout their term. They receive continuous support and administrative/policy resourcing from the Law Society. To discover which Committees are Special Interest, please click here.
