Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to attend in person?
FORUM 2025 offers a hybrid option, so practitioners can attend in person or virtually via live webinar.

There is no limit on the number of units which can be claimed from attending a live webinar (in real time). There is, however, a limit when viewing or listening to a recording of the same seminar after the fact.

How are my CPD points appointed?
When you register for a CPD event with your Law Society account, please ensure you sign in if attending in person. We cross-check the sign-in sheet with the registration list and automatically apply the CPD points to your account.

For Webinar attendees, your login will be used as a sign in sheet. Any CPD completed outside of the Law Society must be self-assessed.

Do we get papers?
FORUM 2025 will have an online portal that includes all CPD sessions you’ve registered for, along with Zoom links and any papers we have permission to distribute. The portal will remain available for up to four weeks after the event.

To reduce our carbon footprint, there will be no printed materials provided for In-Person attendees. Please access your portal the day before and print any papers you wish to bring for the presentations. Please feel free to bring your laptops, there will be access to power in the session rooms and in the exhibition foyer. Notepads and pens will also be provided.

Can I get an invoice for my sessions for my firm to pay?
Yes, please email cpd@lawsocietysa.asn.au to request this or look on your profile page under the invoice tab.

Is there a discount if I register for more than 5 sessions?
Yes, we offer a 10% discount for a one-day ticket (5 CPD sessions) and a 15% discount for a two-day ticket (10 CPD sessions). You must apply the voucher yourself at checkout.

Questions about MCPD auditing?
For more information on the Audit, please refer to the MCPD Audit Guide here

How can I check to see what CPD points I need?
All CPD completed with the Law Society is recorded on the practitioner’s profile within two weeks of the CPD session. Practitioner’s can refer to the MCPD Compliance tab of their Law Society profile to confirm how many CPD units they have completed for the year. Members only: Members may also record non-Law Society events on their MCPD record.

What are the required MCPD units?
Practitioners must complete 10 CPD units, inclusive of 1 CPD unit from each of the four ‘mandatory’ topics.

The mandatory topics are: Professional Skills, Bullying, Discrimination and Harassment, Practice Management or Business Skills, and Practical Legal Ethics.

As a requirement to maintain your practicing certificate, all practitioners will need 10 CPD points per CPD calendar year (April 1 to March 31). A maximum of 5 points can be earned through pre-recorded multimedia sessions, and 4 of the 10 points must be in mandatory units.

Can I roll over my CPD points?
CPD units completed in January, February or March of a CPD year and that are in excess of what the practitioner requires for that CPD year may, at the election of the practitioner, be assigned in whole or in part to the next CPD year.

It is the responsibility of the practitioner to keep a record of which units they carry forward.
