Disaster Relief & Recovery
In preparation of a large scale disaster in this state, the Law Society of South Australia has coordinated offers of legal assistance from individual practitioners and firms who can be activated at short notice to provide legal advice and assistance.
The Legal Services Commission of South Australia provides a free Legal Helpline for those affected by a natural disaster to speak to an adviser about their legal issues and options.
The disaster recovery free legal advice service commenced in 2011 and has been activated three times. In addition, the Legal Services Commission of South Australia is also currently collaborating with Community Legal Centres (SA) to deliver a specific bushfire legal assistance support project
toassist those affected by the 2019/2020 South Australian bushfires. Both services have appointed dedicated lawyers (“Legal Officers”) to provide free legal advice and assistance to members of the Adelaide Hills, Kangaroo Island, and Yorke Peninsula communities. The project is funded by the Commonwealth and State Governments.
Face-to-face appointments are available at Parndana, Lobethal, and Yorketown. Visit the outreach calendar to see when they are next visiting. For further information, or to book an appointment (face-to-face, or via telephone, or videoconferencing), contact:
