1.5 CPD units (Standard)

Presenters: Hannah March, Justice Reform Initiative

The proportion of adults in South Australian prisons on remand is approximately 44%, the highest of all Australian states. It costs $87,000 per year to imprison an adult on remand. The largest investment in justice in the most recent State Budget was $227 million on an expansion of prison cells. There is minimal ongoing investment in alternatives to remand.

This CPD will cover:
  • The work already underway to increase access to bail in SA; and
  • How to increase access to bail through investment in alternatives to remand.

  • This event caters to practitioners at all levels—beginner, intermediate, and advanced—across the areas of Criminal Law, Public Law, and Human Rights Law.
