The session will cover the following topics:
  • The Convention on the Rights of the Older Person
  • The recent Aged Care Act
  • Human rights of older persons in the aged care reforms
  • The Age Discrimination Act reform, ageism and the need for a national plan of action to eliminate ageism.
  • Human rights of older persons in the conversations about a national human rights Act
  • The Public Advocate – topic to be advised
  • A practical perspective from Aged Rights Advocacy Service and how ARAS supports the older person. The role of ARAS in the changing landscape under the new Act, including what this looks like on the ground.
