This session delves into neuroscience fundamentals to understand the organ responsible for mental health: the brain. Learn how a network of electrical cells and brain regions produce emotions, stress, memory & motivation.

Learn 4 fundamental principles of brain function and discuss evidence-based strategies to work with the brain to improve mental health and well-being.

The fundamental principles are:

• Mental health is physical brain health (how to optimise brain health)
• The brain has the capacity for change (neuroplasticity)
• The brain always tries to save energy (hack the habit formation system)
• Most brain processes are subconscious (learn to regain control)

About the Presenter:
Dr North founded Understand your Brain because she is passionate about communicating neuroscience research for everyday application to improve lives. She has a PhD in neuroscience and dedicates her life to a scientific understanding of the brain and sharing that understanding with the wider community to improve well-being. Her laboratory research and publications uncover molecular and genetic changes in mental illness. But it's Hayley's contagious enthusiasm and ability to explain complex topics to non-scientists that has engaged audiences around the world to implement positive and lasting change.
