On 6 May 2024, the provisions of the
Family Law Amendment Act 2024 came into effect, bringing with them a suite of changes to the way family law parenting matters are conducted, and decided. This session will address the most significant elements of the recent amendments to the Family Law Act, and the impact that they have had on family law practice, from the perspective of both the Bench and the Bar.

Valuing Rural Property

This presentation will cover the various types of rural property and delve into recent market movements that shape its value, which is particularly relevant for retrospective family court valuations. Discover the purpose of valuations and common approaches, including essential key dates and any retrospective requirements. Learn about what to include or exclude in your valuation instructions —such as plant and machinery, crops, livestock, and household contents. Understand the structure of valuation reports including compliance with expert witness obligations. The final focus will be on issuing clear instructions to the valuer including the importance of establishing an agreed set of facts, particularly when dealing with adversarial situations.
