In this panel discussion, the presenters will provide an examination of the current situation in Australia’s states and territories regarding raising the age of criminal responsibility and the implications of any such legislative change for youth crime prevention policies. Our expert speakers will outline the rationale behind raising the age, discuss the necessary alternative mechanisms for addressing youth behaviour that might otherwise be deemed criminal, and highlight effective strategies for prevention and intervention.

Additionally, the panelists will discuss the impacts of investment in the youth support sector and address issues related to ensuring that any discussion of legislative changes considers trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive services.
