Paper and Recording 1 CPD Unit in Professional Skills Presenters: Richard Bradshaw - Johnston Withers Caitlin Walkington - Johnston Withers The Uniform Defamation Act and the common law (so far as consistent with it) apply to social media and other electronic publications. By reference to recent cases Richard Bradshaw and Caitlin Walkington will consider particular aspects of defamation law as they affect online publications, including: -who is a ‘publisher’ and the differences between ‘primary publishers’ and ‘secondary publishers’ -distinct features of online publications and how they can affect defamatory imputations; -foreshadowed changes to the law.
