Recording 1.5 CPD Units in Professional Skills Presenter: Ryan Catterwell - Howard Zelling Chambers In this talk, Ryan Catterwell will analyse how contract interpretation works in practice. He will use hypothetical and real case examples to illustrate how interpretive disputes are resolved. In particular, he will show that questions of interpretation are determined by weighing and balancing competing factors drawn from the contract text, background, commercial purpose, practical consequences, and so on. Ryan will also explore related contract law techniques, namely, implication and rectification. He will demonstrate that contract interpretation and similar techniques can be distinguished on a practical level.
