The New Penalty for Corporate Misconduct

Not just a Cost of Doing Business - The New Penalty for Corporate Misconduct

1.5 Standard CPD Units

Presenter:  Chris Rowe, Senior Manager-Financial Services Enforcement ASIC

Chair:  Melissa Smith, Senior Executive Leader - Financial Services Enforcement ASIC

This session will explain the stronger penalty regime recently introduced for the corporate and financial sector, to be administered by a reinvigorated Australian Securities and Investments Commission. The session will also cover the new product intervention power, which is to be used by ASIC to prevent consumers being exposed to harmful financial products, and the design and distribution obligations to be imposed on product issuers and their distributors.  The session will touch more broadly on other reforms to ASIC’s powers, arising out of the recommendations made to Government by the ASIC Enforcement Review Taskforce and the Financial Services Royal Commission. For those involved in the corporate and financial sector, the session will be a valuable insight into the rapidly changing regulatory landscape.
