This presentation will look briefly at the history of the development of courts of appeal in Australia and their differences across the jurisdictions.  It will then examine the essential provisions of the Supreme Court (Court of Appeal) Amendment Act 2019 and the effect of that Act on the operations of the Supreme Court.  Finally, it will look at the rule changes and the practices that have been and are being implemented by the Court of Appeal in both the civil and criminal appellate jurisdictions, including callovers, the determination of applications for leave to appeal and the hearing and disposition of appeals.
