: Belinda Heggen, FLUENT Media
Date
: Friday 12 May 2023
Time
: 10:00am - 12:00pm
Format:

Join us for this special Media Training Masterclass Workshop where we will help you develop your professional communication skills and confidence when engaging with the media, on behalf of yourself, your firm and/or clients.
The bespoke training, conducted by respected coach
Belinda Heggen
, will give valuable insight into how the media operates, what it needs and wants from practitioners, techniques to help prepare for - and excel in - media interviews (TV, radio and print), how to attract and help deflect media interest, and strategies to expertly handle difficult interviews.
The Masterclass will ensure you also learn the skills needed to help develop your professional profile as a go-to ‘industry expert’, thought leader and respected authority in your field.
Among our key objectives will be to ensure you are equipped with the skills and confidence required to expertly handle and lead media interviews and prosecute key messaging relating to your cases, advocacy and/or clients.
We will also ensure you have the skills to confidently handle difficult interviews, which may arise in relation to more controversial/complex issues or high-profile clients.
The bespoke training will ensure you have a clear understanding of:
-
How to create strong, memorable ‘cut-through’ key messages that will connect with your audience and, importantly, how to stick to the key messages.
-
How to apply this knowledge to a range of scenarios, including long-form radio interviews, on-camera TV pressers and print interviews.
-
Pivot or bridging technique to successfully steer an interview from a negative line of questioning to safer ground.
-
How to present in a calm, confident and composed manner regardless of environmental distractions.
-
On-camera presentation techniques (eg where to look, how to stand, background considerations, what traps to avoid)
-
Effective crisis communications.
-
How to successfully manage a rapidly developing issue, combative press conference, or media throng outside of court.
By the end of the coaching session, you will:
-
Know what to expect before a media interview and how best to prepare, especially under pressure
-
Know how to ensure you give yourself the best chance of getting a ‘run’ on TV, on radio or having your story appear in the press
-
Understand what the media needs from you, and the techniques reporters/presenters use to elicit specific responses
-
Feel confident in being able to present in a confident, authoritative and composed manner that ensures your key messages are delivered and understood
-
Know how to use the pivot or bridging technique to return to key messages
-
Know what traps to avoid
