Claims are on the rise in wills and estates. The Inheritance (Family Provision) Act is proving to be a particular hot spot. The Society has purchased a suite of documents for wills and estates from Lexon, the insurer of the Queensland PII scheme which have been adapted to SA legislation and court rules. These documents will be discussed during the session and made available to attendees. In this multimedia workshop very recent claims will be examined with a focus on how good systems and procedures will reduce a firm’s vulnerability.

Recent corporate scandals highlight the critical importance of an organisation’s ethical culture and an individual’s ethical resilience. Ethical lapses play a part in many claims and can range from financial issues, internal pressures, and loss of perspective to conflict of interests and duties to the client and court. This multimedia workshop will focus on building firm culture and individual professional ethics which results in appropriate decision making, retainer management, supervision and communication.

This paper is directed towards those practitioners who, in the context of proceedings under the Family Law Act, are put in a position of having to pursue the presentation of expert opinion evidence for the purpose of litigation and/or extra curial remedial/dispute resolution procedures. 

Registration fees:

PI Scheme Participants admitted less than 3 years: $85 per session

Cancellations: Payment in full of the registration fee is required to be made at least five working days prior to the event.  Previously paid registrations are transferable subject to the alternate attendee being eligible to register at the same registration fee (that is a practitioner who is not a Society member is not eligible to attend in place of a member without the price differential having been paid. Any person who has registered and paid to attend an event but is subsequently unable to do so and does not wish to transfer the registration is able to apply to the Society for a refund, however such refunds (in whole or in part) will be at the discretion of the Law Society subject to the circumstances and any external costs paid by the Society which cannot be recovered by us.
