1.5 CPD Units in Legal Ethics

Albert Einstein said “A clever person solves a problem – a wiser one avoids it.” But it is not always easy to see the wise pathway. This interactive seminar explores values and ethical practice. It identifies challenges in legal practice with clients, litigation, negotiation, mediation, culture and environments. Several challenging examples will be discussed which are thought provoking and require legal assessment. The goal of the session is to help practitioners increase confidence when implementing ethical priorities and behaviours.

Session 2
11.00am - 12.30pm:

Why do lawyers keep getting out of time claims when we know the law?

Facilitators: Jane LeMessurier and Sue Harrington, Partners, LeMessurier Harrington Consulting
Grant Feary, Legal Risk Counsel Law Claims

1.5 CPD Units in Practice Management/Business Skills

This seminar explores the vexed question of why we still miss critical dates in every area of law from a new angle. We see that the way our brains work can set us up to fail. Understanding the risks associated with task saturation, task fixation, attribution error and vigilance decrement will motivate individuals and firms to put good leadership and risk management practices in place. The helpful role of the Law Society Risk Management Packages (such as the recently released PI and MVA packages) will also be considered. It’s time to reflect and make the necessary changes.
