The Australian economy is at the crossroads. On the back of the highest rates of inflation we have seen in more than 30 years, the Reserve Bank of Australia has had to raise the cash rate at an unprecedented pace - from 0.1% in April 2022 to 4.1% in June 2023. Elevated cost of living pressures, higher interest rates, accelerating rents are all weighing on household disposable income and spending. Pat joined the Westpac Group as a Senior Economist in August 2022. He works across several businesses, including Westpac Business Bank, St. George Bank, BankSA , Bank of Melbourne and BT. Prior to this, Pat was an economic adviser to the Federal Treasurer, the Hon Josh Frydenberg, during the COVID-19 outbreak. This involved advising on the economy and appropriate macroeconomic policy settings, with a focus on taxation policy.
