Whistleblowers play an important role to identify and call out misconduct and harm to the community. Yet they may face difficulties or risk their careers for speaking out. Recent reforms have strengthened the legal rights and protections for whistleblowers in both the public and private sector. The reforms also place strict rules on public and private sector entities when they receive and investigate whistleblower disclosures. This session will explore the whistleblower protection regimes in the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2018 (SA) as well as the regulatory arrangements at the Commonwealth and state level.
