CPD Cornerstone: Finance Essentials for Lawyers
is a 4-part series of Cornerstone CPDs focusing on developing or improving financial acumen for all those in the legal profession. Getting to grips with finance and how it drives any organisation’s financial performance is a crucial professional skill. The Cornerstone in Finance Essentials will cover all aspects of this challenging field including how to read financial reports and make them work for you, as well as how to improve performance and make sound financial decisions.
The four 1.5-hour sessions will cover:
Session One (June)
Introduction to financial records and
how to read and understand a profit and loss account
Session Two (September)
How to read and understand a balance sheet
Session Three (December)
How to read and understand a statement of cash flow
Session Four (March)
How to critically analyse financial reports
Session 1 - Introduction to financial records and how to read and understand a profit and loss account
Getting to grips with finance and how it drives any organisation’s financial performance is a crucial professional skill.
Session One of this four session series will cover the following aspects of this challenging field:
* Understanding how financial reports are prepared
* Learning how to ensure financial reports are accurate
* Finding out how to prepare a profit and loss account
* Learning tips on how to identify the three or four key numbers in a profit and loss account
* Finding out whether you can rely on the profit and loss account to assess the viability of an organisation.
Our sessions will follow a challenging and highly interactive format and a finance workbook will be provided for every session.
Session One will add a new dimension to your knowledge of financial record keeping and profit and loss accounts.
This 4-part series will take place quarterly: dates for future sessions will be advised in due course.
About the Presenter:
Henry Botha
Finance Specialist, Director, International Financial Management Lecturer and Facilitator
Henry has more than 30 years’ experience in the finance industry and is a well-regarded presenter specialising in financial acumen.
As an associate of the Melbourne Business School, Henry delivers strategic finance and business acumen in a range of courses, across both open and customised programs. He lectures for the Australian Institute of Company Directors in Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong and Beijing and has also
delivered training programs in Bangkok for the Thai Institute of Directors.
He has presented numerous financial management workshops for executives and is highly regarded as a lecturer who is able to break-down complex financial concepts into straightforward steps, whilst presenting in a highly interesting and engaging manner.
Henry is also an experienced Board Director, with previous appointments including: Chair of the Audit Committee of Medical Insurance Australia Pty Ltd, Chair of CPR Pharma Services Pty Ltd and Board Director of Levett Engineering Pty Ltd.
