The Practice Management Course has been specifically designed for legal practitioners taking the step to becoming law practice principals, whether as sole practitioners, partners or directors of law practices. The course will provide instruction and guidance on a range of law practice management issues from regulatory requirements to financial and risk management. The Course presenters are all experts in their fields. Trust accounting, ethics and risk management modules are presented by Law Society staff who have first-hand experience in the obligations and the needs of the South Australian legal profession. The course also covers business planning, marketing and leadership. 

The Course will be taught interactively online over three  days and will entitle attendees to claim 18 MCPD units including all 3 required units. Some modules may also be offered on a stand-alone basis subject to capacity.

Ethics and Responsibility

In this module, you will be required to consider your professional obligations against the backdrop of the regulatory framework and the common law. In particular, attention will be focused on a practitioner’s professional obligations and responsibilities arising from the Legal Practitioners Act 1981 and the Australian Solicitors Conduct Rules and how it applies in legal practice. To demonstrate your understanding, you will consider factual scenarios and apply the relevant principles and rules to achieve appropriate outcomes, which will also assist your understanding of the synergy between your professional obligations and the lawyer/client relationship.

Leadership/having difficult conversations/ people management

This module will explore the concept of leadership and support participants to identify those leadership behaviours that promote high performance in themselves and others.  It will introduce approaches to aid participants in themselves and others.  It will introduce approaches to aid participants in differentiating between effective and ineffective leadership, identifying how to adapt their role and behaviours in managing others how to understand, engage and motivate the hearts and minds of team members tackling difficult conversations with confidence and clarity. As the final unit in the Practice Management Course, it will also provide participants with an opportunity to consider how they will lead themselves in ensuring that their own return on investment from the Course is maximised.

Health and Well Being - Online 
Legal practice is stressful- that is probably one of the things that make it exciting and attractive.  This online programme provides pointers and practical tips as to how to deal with serious mental health issues.
