Drafting Horror Stories and How to Avoid them

Facilitators: Sue Harrington and Jane LeMessurier, Partners, LeMessurier Harrington Consulting

1.5 CPD Units in Practice Management/Business Skills

When it comes to drafting errors, Law Claims subscribes to the old adage, “learn from the mistakes of others – you won’t live long enough to make them all yourself!” In this seminar we see a wise hypothetical firm after a claim and several near misses. The firm has set up a risk management group to consider where they are vulnerable to drafting problems and put in place strategies to reduce their risks across all areas of practice. The claims prone issues explored include human error, failure to road test, not drafting to meet regulatory requirements and incomplete research before drafting. We will see that small changes can make the world of difference.

11.00am – 12.30pm

With the assistance of Jennifer Brook, Director Sedsman Legal  and Grant Feary, Legal Risk Counsel Law Claims, we will examine a number of case studies, consider the guidance provided by the Wills and Estates Risk Package and ensure that you are doing everything to protect the ‘will’ of your client and your firm from claims.
