9.00 – 10.30 am
Drafting horror stories and how to avoid them.
Facilitators: Sue Harrington and Jane LeMessurier, Partners,
LeMessurier Harrington Consulting
1.5 CPD units in Practice Management/Business Skills
When it comes to drafting errors, Law Claims subscribes to the old adage, “learn from the mistakes
of others – you won’t live long enough to make them all yourself!” In this seminar we see a wise
hypothetical firm after a claim and several near misses. The firm has set up a risk management
group to consider where they are vulnerable to drafting problems and put in place strategies to
reduce their risks across all areas of practice. The claims prone issues explored include human error,
failure to road test, not drafting to meet regulatory requirements and incomplete research
before drafting. We will see that small changes can make the world of difference.

11.00 – 12.30pm
Ethics Revisited
Facilitator: Sue Harrington, Partner, LeMessurier Harrington Consulting
1.5 CPD units in Legal Ethics
Conduct input: Nadine Lambert, Solicitor, Legal Profession Conduct Commissioner's Office
Albert Einstein said “A clever person solves a problem – a wiser one avoids it.” But it is not always easy
to see the wise pathway.
This interactive seminar explores values and ethical practice. It identifies challenges
in legal practice with clients, litigation, negotiation, mediation, culture and environments. Several challenging
examples will be discussed which are thought provoking and require legal assessment. The goal of the session
is to help practitioners increase confidence when implementing ethical priorities and behaviours.

1.00pm – 2.30pm
