Session 3: Work-Life Balance & Difficult Conversations
Presenters: Lisa Bondarenko
CPD: 1 CPD unit in Bullying, Discrimination and Harassment

The Art of Difficult Conversations
How Emotionally Intelligent Leadership Protects Culture, Wellbeing & Work-Life Balance

Difficult conversations are one of the most important — and most avoided — aspects of leadership. This session explores why they feel challenging, and how emotionally intelligent communication can transform workplace culture, reduce conflict, and support sustainable work-life balance.

Drawing on a therapy-informed approach, the workshop provides practical strategies for managing conflict, setting boundaries, and navigating high-pressure conversations with clarity and confidence.

Participants will gain insight into how avoidance impacts wellbeing, how leadership communication shapes culture, and how to approach difficult conversations in a way that strengthens both performance and psychological safety.
Ideal for leaders, managers, and professionals working in high-responsibility environments.

Participants will walk away with these key points:
  • Communicate with confidence – Learn a practical framework for handling difficult conversations with clarity and emotional intelligence.
  • Protect wellbeing through healthy boundaries – Develop skills to address issues early, reducing stress and preventing conflict from following you home.
  • Create a culture that supports sustainable performance – Understand how effective leadership conversations build trust, accountability, and genuine work-life balance.
