Presenter: Bryce Figot, DBA Lawyers
This session provides a practical, step-by-step guide on how to ensure that an SMSF member’s SMSF benefits are appropriately dealt with upon their incapacity or death. It is designed for lawyers who want a comprehensive guide to SMSFs and succession planning. The topics will be presented as a step-by-step guide, with practical case studies to illustrate their real-life application.
The topics aim to foster the following skills in attendees:
- How to prepare binding death benefit nominations
- What you should insert into your client’s will
- How to ensure that the correct people control an SMSF upon loss of capacity and upon death
- Reversionary pension nominations: when they are needed and how to implement them
- What documentation is needed to quickly withdraw benefits
- Managing conflicts, particularly regarding second spouses, trustees and executors/legal personal representatives
- How to build an SMSF-appropriate enduring power of attorney
- And much more!
This session will cover the same content as the workshop presented in March 2026. Previous attendees are welcome to attend again; however, no new material will be presented.
