New Street Gangs legislation to be tested
The Criminal Law Consolidation (Street Gangs) Act was passed in 2025. Read the Society’s submission here.
New Rules and Regulations for the operation of the legislation were recently proclaimed. The Rules include new prescribed forms for Street Gang Court orders.
The Society understands that the new legislation will soon be tested in the Supreme Court and Youth Court, with control orders expected against two alleged youth “gangs”.
Under the legislation, the Police Commissioner can apply to the Court for control orders that impose serious restrictions on those prescribed as participants in street gangs.
