The Legal Regulation of Community Legal Centres
Recording
Presenter: Chris Charles - Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement
1.5 Standard CPD Units
This CPD lecture covers the operation of division 3B of part 3 of the Legal Practitioners Act, the legal regulation of Community Legal Centres (CLCs). It explores the relationship between legal practitioners employed by the CLC, and the centre itself, usually incorporated as a community Association. It also covers internal relationships between law practice associates and the principal of the CLC law practice who has responsibility for its operation. This leads into a discussion of common delegations from the principal to the associates. The paper also discusses common ethical dilemmas which may arise in a community-based law practice
