Call for Nominations

 

In accordance with the Rules of the Society, nominations are called for the following:

 

Officer positions - one-year term

  • President-Elect (one position)
  • Vice-President (female) (one position)
  • Vice-President (male) (one position)
  • Treasurer (one position)

Council Member positions - two year term

  • Metropolitan Member (female) (six positions)
  • Metropolitan Member (male) (six positions)
  • Country Member (Central) (one position)
  • Junior Member (one position)


Information for potential candidates

  1. Participants must be Financial Members

    Only Financial Members of the Society are entitled to be nominated for/stand for election for positions and vote at elections. Nominations must be signed by two nominees who are Financial Members (Rule 7.4.1.2). Members who wish to nominate or act as a supporter for a nominee should check that their membership subscription for 2022-23 has been paid.

  2. Nominations for more than one position

    A Member may be nominated for/stand for election as an Officer of the Society (President-Elect, a Vice-President, Treasurer) at the same time as being nominated/standing for election as a Metropolitan Member, Country or Junior Member (as eligible) (Rule 7.4.2.5).

  3. Gender Based Positions

    Nominees for the gender based (Vice President and Metropolitan Member) positions must identify with the gender (whether or not they are of that gender or of non-specific gender) of the position for which they nominate (as per definitions of “man” and “woman” in the Rules). There are no gender restrictions for nominators.

  4. Metropolitan Members

    Only Members whose principal place of practice is in the Metropolitan District may be nominated for/stand for election as a Metropolitan Member (unless they do not have a principal place of practice, in which case their residential address will determine eligibility) (Rules 7.4.2.9 and 7.4.2.11).

  5. Country Members

    Only Members whose principal place of practice is in the relevant Country District may be nominated for/stand for election in that Country District (unless they do not have a principal place of practice, in which case their residential address will determine eligibility). (Rules 7.4.2.10 and 7.4.2.11).

  6. Junior Members

    Only Members who have been admitted as a legal practitioner in any jurisdiction for, in aggregate, for less than three years as at 1 January 2022 (ie admitted after 31 December 2019, unless in aggregate) are eligible to be nominated for/stand for election for the position of Junior Member. (Rule 7.2.5).

    A Junior Member may be nominated for/stand for election in any other category for which they are also eligible. (Rule 7.4.2.6).

  7. Associates

    Associates are not eligible to nominate, act as a nominee for a Member or stand for election for any position.


Information about the CorpVote nomination process

The nomination process is being conducted by CorpVote (an independent election provider), via an electronic platform.

Nominations must be supported by two Financial Members ("supporters"). It is recommended a Member who intends to nominate approach their proposed supporters and advise them of the position/s for which it is intended to nominate prior to commencing to submit a nomination via the CorpVote Nomination Platform.

As part of the nomination process the supporters advised to CorpVote in the nomination process will be contacted by CorpVote by email and asked to confirm (or otherwise) their support for the nomination.

In submitting a nomination, a candidate must confirm that if they are elected they will comply with the provisions of the Council and Council Member Charter, which is available on the CorpVote Nomination Platform (as a reference document).

Nominations are called for in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Rules of the Society which are available on the CorpVote Nomination Platform (as a reference document).

Candidates may upload a photograph to the CorpVote Nomination Platform for use in the event there is an election (should they wish to have a photograph included).

Word limits for elements of the Candidate Profile, which can be completed by the nominee during the nomination process will be automatically applied by the CorpVote Nomination Platform. The Candidate Profile is the basis of information provided to voters in an election, should one be required.

Candidates and supporters will need to provide their LSSA Member No. during the nomination process, for verification purposes. Your Member No. is included at the start of this notice.

A list of candidates including supporters will be published by the Society after nominations close.
