The presentation will consist of a detailed overview of South Australian coronial jurisdiction, including a description of what the State Coroner and his office does, what the Coroner’s Court does and how it operates with particular emphasis on the roles of legal practitioners in that jurisdiction.  The presentation will also discuss recent authorities touching on the exercise of coronial jurisdiction in this State including those relating to claims of privilege against self-incrimination and the so-called ‘penalty privilege’, as well as developments relating to suppression of the identities of witnesses in inquests.
