The Defence Industry currently makes up about 4% of South Australia's economy
and accounts for 6.4% of South Australia's exports, and it is continuing to
grow. The industry is made up of not only Government and large multinationals,
but also hundreds of SME's from industries including Manufacturing,
Construction, Logistics, IT and Communications, Financial and Insurance, Real
Estate, Technical Services, Administration, Education and Training. This
Half-Day Seminar will demystify how the Legal Profession can participate in
this growing industry, and also take you through some practical quirks to be
aware of when advising clients who service the Defence Industry. 4 topics and a
panel discussion.

Practice of Law in Defence

This session will talk about the significant role that South Australia will
play into the future. Ms. Rush will also discuss the general overview of
the practice of law within defence. She will also talk about the potential for
both public and private sector lawyers to be part of the work they do within
the Government or in private practice and industry. This session will also
discuss the key skills necessary to be successful in this field.

For this session, Mr. Donaldson will discuss the various types of IP applicable
in defence contract scenarios and what should or should not be included in
contracts with subcontractors. He will provide valuable insights and practical
tips to safeguard your IP and avoid any legal disputes.

professionals in the defence sector. They will discuss the key areas of law
that ADF lawyers deal with, including military justice, international
humanitarian law and administrative law. They will talk about how it is like
working as a lawyer in defence.

Panel Discussion on Building Connections with SME’s and Contractors

The first 20 min of the session will discuss Jess’s experience when she entered
Defence via a graduate pathway and her career path since then. She will also
detail a bit of day in the life of an APS Defence Lawyer to illustrate the type
of work that they do.
Join us for an exciting panel discussion in the latter part of this session,
moderated by Ms. Palzewski. Our expert speakers will share their insights and
strategies on how law firms in Adelaide can effectively attract clients from
the 300+ defence SME’s located in South Australia. We will also delve into
other areas of concerns when working for Defence.
