Being An Inclusive and Disability-Friendly Legal Practice

1.5 CPD Units in Practice Management/ Business Skills

Presenter:   Natalie Wade, Founder and Principal Lawyer - Equality Lawyers
Chair: Margaret Castles, Senior Lecturer - Adelaide Law School

Equality Lawyers specialises in providing legal services to people with disabilities and their families. However, servicing this cohort presents unique challenges and opportunities from a legal practice perspective. This session will focus on how lawyers can provide ethical and safe legal services for people with disabilities. Recognising that disability is a broad construct and can impact people of all walks of life, the session will provide an overview of inclusion values that can be incorporated into existing practice management strategies before discussing practical, everyday tips on providing an inclusive legal service. Whether you are a sole practitioner or large law firm, it is critical that your practice is inclusive and accessible for people with disabilities. In the advent of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the Disability Royal Commission and the general existence of everyday legal issues facing people with disabilities the time is ripe for legal practitioners to ensure their practice is disability-friendly.
